Christmas Snapshots #haikuforhealing

23 Dec

Though I haven’t joined in on Poetry Friday for a couple of weeks, I’ve enjoyed reading the #haikuforhealing (Mary Lee Hahn’s idea)  that keep popping up in my Twitter feed and various blogs this December.

Today I’m  bringing my little haiku side-dish to the potluck.

Christmas Snapshots #haikuforhealing

Road choked with cars.
She signals merge—let her in…
That’s the spirit!

Smell of poppycock
on my early morning walk—
only at Christmas.

🎼 Chestnuts roasting…
O come all ye faithful 🎹
I’ll be home. 🎶

Christmas Eve—all here,
lists ticked off, fridge full, feet hurt.
Soak in candlelight.

Trash bins overflow
tissue, Santa wrap, packing…
We are so blessed!

Now, a Merry Christmas,  Happy Hanukkah (or whatever winter, or summer [if you’re down-under] holiday you celebrate) to all!

    stars on tree
    shine like the sky
    with blessings

You inspired a haiku. It snuck out to party with friends. 🙂

It’s been fun to read everyone’s #haikuforhealing and to write a few myself this month. Yours remind me of Bob Raschka’s Santa Clauses, which inspired the original project last year. I love the “smell of poppycock” and the one that’s entirely song lines. Very clever!

Thank you, Carol! Yes, I’ve enjoyed the variety of haiku this month… from political to pastoral. Wishing you a lovely Christmas!

Love the idea of Poetry Friday being a potluck. And, your side dish is wonderful. I love the line soaking in candle light. I may have to use that in one of my haiku too. Have a great weekend and enjoy all the season offers.

The details of Christmas are universal. I wish the Christmas spirit would spread to drivers. So much rushing, little attention.

Thanks, Margaret… Actually that roadster haiku was me talking to myself as much as to anyone. I find myself too easily becoming infected by the impatience that takes over!

I love the musical one the best, but they are all so evocative, especially the smell of poppycock!

Thank you, Mary Lee—and for getting this whole #haikuforhealing gig going! It’s been a lot of fun, mostly reading, and writing a few (not a month’s worth here, I’m afraid).

I love these! Haikus are so wonderful, expressing so much with only a few words. You’ve really captured to feeling of the season, though I wish more drivers had that holiday spirit! 😉
