Rodeo Senryu

25 Aug

One of the things we did on our holiday was go to the Dawson Creek Rodeo. What a fun afternoon and evening in a stadium that looked out on picturesque prairie. It was like being on the set of Heartland!

What I love to do at rodeos is to challenge myself with getting shots of the action. Rodeos are full of action!

Today I’m posting three senryu (human haiku) based on a few of my rodeo shots. (Be assured, no animals were injured in the process of these events.)

I haven’t been to a rodeo in years, & there are some big ones here! When I did see them, I was always amazed at the barrel racing, wonderful talent in horse and young woman! Love your pics, too, Violet!

Those are some great shots. Your photographs win the race and your poems are like the blue ribbons.

Well done on capturing the action, Violet, and great presentation, too! I went to a rodeo once when I lived in NM. What I remember most was the strong sense of identity in that crowd.

You took me right back to the rodeo in my home town! Smooth out the hills in the background and take out the trees — that could be Eastern Colorado! Your photos and senryu capture moments perfectly!

Violet, thank you for capturing the excitement of a rodeo and introducing me to a new form of poetry.
The line “race of a lifetime” ties in beautifully with the photo.

Thanks for sharing the rodeo action, Violet! I’ve never been to a rodeo, but your photos and senryu gave me a taste of what I’m missing. =)

I love going to Dawson Creek rodeo, despite the long drive from Sask! Nice pictures!

Thanks, Robbi! I see from your blog that you are one of those fearless barrel racer ladies. Barrel racing is one of my favorite rodeo events. You ladies and your horses are amazing!

Last year was our first time to attend the rodeo in Dawson Creek. We’ll definitely go again if we’re there at rodeo time.
