A Winter Wish

View from our lanai - January vacation in Hawaii

A Winter Wish

Soft air is gentle, warm and kind
my limbs are tanned and free
the doves coo tender, flowers sway
with butterfly and bee

The roads unfold to waterfall
rock beach and pounding spray
the sweet days slip like pearls unstrung
this winter holiday

If only I could have a wish
I’d order time stand still
“Stop all the clocks” my one command
until I’ve had my fill

This poem was inspired by “Carry On Tuesday – Prompt 145” and the words “Stop all the clocks.”

“Stop all the clocks” is found in the poem “Funeral Blues” by W. H. Auden.  Read and listen to the original poem here.

Maui Scrapbook – Wild ride

Surfer at Ho'okipa Beach Park

Wild ride

Crouch, stand tall
mount the curling foam
up and down
in and out
for the wild ride back to shore
any wave will do

Maui Scrapbook – Newbies

Me - with my winter-white skin

Newbies

Friday night

****************

We recently returned from a two-week holiday on Maui. What a treat! I had never been to any of the Hawaiian islands before, so everything was novel and new.

I took lots of photos and decided to combine those with shadorma poems to make a  photo-poetry album of Maui memories.

Adolescence

Adolescence

Five tomatoes ripening
on my window ledge
four are green and hard and small
the fifth is on the edge

of young tomato adulthood
large, red-green and blushing
cast out from every unripe vine
of gossiping–and wishing.

Trust?

Trust?

(After Psalm 91:4)

Under hollow bones
connected by mere cartilage and skin
clothed in feathers and down?

Then I remember
the wing-bearer
has the heart of a lion.

The internet is full of interesting poetry prompts. My attention was snagged by this photo of a wing with its challenge to write a poem on the Everyday Poems Facebook page (way back on January 20th).
